Józef Bury is an artist and art theoretician, the author of papers, conferences and translations on contemporary art history and theory. He works on the issues of time and space, analysing polysensory perception, memory, experience recording and sub-cognitive processes with the use of painting practices, photography, space-and-time actions as well as theoretical recording of creative process.

Since 1984 he has been involved in the activity of numerous contemporary art organisations and associations, including: the Scientific-Creative Circle at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow; the Procreart (F); the S.A.T. (Société d'Art et de Transports, F); Toto & Co (F); Espace Itinéraires (F); Wizya (F); Danae Foundation (F); Æesthetica-Nova (F); I.A.M. (PL).

Since 1993 he has been the member of the Æsthetica-Nova France Association (art, science, philosophy), taking part in editing its periodical, and organising its exhibitions and conferences. http://www.lutecium.org/stp/nova.html

1994 - 1995. He works at the Danae Foundation, (Pouilly, France). He organises artistic exchange between the Danae Foundation and Polish contemporary art centres.

1994. He participates in creation of the C.E.R.T. - Centre d'Enseignement et de Recherche Transdisciplinaire, (the Transdisciplinary Research Centre), (the Danae Foundation Project), lecturing the theory and practice of photography in transdisciplinary creation at the C.E.R.T. (1994-1996).

1997. In collaboration with the BWA Contemporary Art Gallery in Katowice he initiates and works as the originator of the International Art Meeting Katowice – the international contemporary art biennial. Since 2003 he lectures design theory and history at the Superior School of Arts in Brest, France (Ecole Supérieure d'Arts de Brest).

Since 2004 he lectures the theory and practice of photography as a visiting professor at the University Nice Sophia-Antipolis (Master Sciences Information et Communication - Ingénierie de la création multimédia et direction artistique de projets),
And is the member of the Pierre Francastel Interdisciplinary Research Centre on Contemporary Art, University Paris X - Nanterre.
